Overview
- House Education and Workforce Chair Rep. Tim Walberg launched the investigation Monday into the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine, UCSF School of Medicine and the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
- Letters to the schools request extensive records on complaints, DEI discussions after Oct. 7, and training and investigation guidelines dating back to Sept. 1, 2021, with documents due by Sept. 8.
- UCLA allegations include a required seminar that used antisemitic tropes and reports of compelled political chanting, while UCSF incidents cited include antisemitic vandalism and a June firing over antisemitic posts.
- At Illinois, cited issues include removal of Oct. 7 hostage posters, a talk featuring a Hamas supporter, a surgeon’s posts comparing Israel to ISIS and Nazis, and claims that the staff lead on the issue is unfit to address it.
- The letters say Jewish students, faculty and patients have reported fear and concealing Jewish identity, and they warn of potential federal funding consequences under Title VI as UCLA states it opposes antisemitism.
