Overview

  • Chairman James Comer ordered the estate to produce unredacted records, including the so-called birthday book, Epstein’s will, contact books, financial documents, and materials tied to the 2008 non-prosecution agreement.
  • The subpoena also requests any records that could be construed as a client list and flight logs, with Comer saying the estate is prepared to comply under a subpoena.
  • Alexander Acosta, the former U.S. attorney who approved Epstein’s 2008 plea deal, is set for a voluntary transcribed interview on September 19.
  • The Justice Department recently provided thousands of pages to the committee, but Democrats say most of the material is already public and does little to answer outstanding questions.
  • The panel will accept sworn no-knowledge declarations from former attorneys general Alberto Gonzales, Eric Holder, and Jeff Sessions, and it continues to seek testimony from other former officials including Bill and Hillary Clinton and former FBI Director James Comey.
