Overview

  • House Judiciary posted a redacted 255-page transcript and more than eight hours of video from Jack Smith’s Dec. 17 closed-door deposition.
  • Smith said his office had proof beyond a reasonable doubt in both the 2020 election and classified-documents cases and that he alone made the charging decisions regardless of party.
  • He told lawmakers the evidence showed President Trump caused and exploited Jan. 6, that a Trump tweet endangered Mike Pence, and that Trump at times acknowledged to others that he lost in 2020.
  • Smith defended secret subpoenas for lawmakers’ phone toll records as lawful, noting judges were not told the targets were members of Congress and that only Rep. Scott Perry’s phone was seized.
  • He denied political pressure or White House coordination, cited court and DOJ limits that barred discussion of nonpublic documents-case details, and renewed his request for a public hearing and full video release.
