House Judiciary Committee Probes Intelligence Community for Alleged Obstruction of 2020 Senate Investigation into Hunter Biden

Intelligence community accused of obstructing a Senate investigation into Hunter Biden by portraying it as Russian "disinformation", prompting House Judiciary Committee to demand answers from the Director of National Intelligence.

  • House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan opened an investigation into allegations that the intelligence community obstructed Senators Grassley and Johnson's 2020 investigation into Hunter Biden's business dealings with Ukraine and other foreign nations by casting their investigations as an advancement of Russian 'disinformation.'
  • The obstruction is alleged to have come in the form of a 'defensive briefing' given by FBI to Senators Grassley and Johnson, relating primarily to the threat of Russian disinformation. The senators have described this briefing as unnecessary and obstructing their investigation by spreading a false narrative that their work was advancing Russian disinformation.
  • It was later revealed that the intelligence used to justify this 'defensive briefing' did not come from the FBI, but from ODNI. The script for the briefing was prepared by the ODNI and delivered by FBI officials at the request of the ODNI.
  • Jordan is seeking a range of documents from Haines and the ODNI, including the script prepared for the August 6, 2020, briefing of Senators Grassley and Johnson, and all documents and communications referring to this briefing.
  • The investigation into allegations of obstruction of the 2020 Senate investigation comes amidst ongoing investigations into Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings and allegations that information from Hunter Biden's abandoned laptop, linking Joe Biden to his family's business dealings, was falsely branded as Russian disinformation.
