House Democrats Seek DHS, DOJ Records on Jan. 6 Defendants in ICE Hiring Push

The request sets a Jan. 26 deadline during a rapid ICE recruitment funded by recent expansions.

Overview

  • Rep. Jamie Raskin sent a three-page letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi seeking records on the solicitation and hiring of people charged or investigated in the Jan. 6 attack.
  • He requested lists of DHS and DOJ employees who received or requested presidential pardons, along with communications on agents’ use of masks and removal of name identifiers.
  • The inquiry follows President Trump’s pardons of more than 1,500 defendants and confirmed appointments that include DOJ adviser Jared Wise, a pardoned Jan. 6 defendant.
  • It remains unclear whether ICE or CBP have hired any Jan. 6 defendants, and DHS and DOJ have not publicly disclosed responses to the request.
  • ICE is expanding headcount with new funding and incentives and aims to add thousands of agents, prompting Democratic concerns about vetting and accountability.
