Overview

  • President Trump ordered and confirmed successful airstrikes on Iran's Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan nuclear facilities on June 21 without seeking congressional approval.
  • In a series of tweets, Trump hailed the operation as a “spectacular military success” that completely destroyed Iran’s key enrichment sites and said all aircraft returned safely.
  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called the strikes “disastrous” and contended that the president’s unilateral action clearly meets the grounds for impeachment.
  • House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries criticized Trump for bypassing Congress and warned that the president alone bears responsibility for any adverse consequences.
  • As calls for impeachment gain traction among congressional Democrats, the White House has yet to issue a formal response to the demands.
