What a fall from grace for the once prestigious St. George Hotel.

Overview

  • A 15-by-20-foot steel-and-concrete marquee fell just after 7 a.m. Sunday above the Henry Street entrance to the Clark Street station without causing injuries
  • No. 2 and No. 3 trains continue to bypass the station pending safety assessments of the subway entrances
  • Department of Buildings investigators have cited open façade violations from 2021 and 2022 and launched a probe into the collapse’s causes
  • Ground-floor businesses have been ordered to vacate under a partial vacate order while structural repairs are planned
  • Councilmember Lincoln Restler says Educational Housing Services ignored repeated calls to address the corroded façade even after a Friday site inspection with NYC Transit President Demetrius Chrichlow
