Overview

  • The report recorded 284 acts of vandalism, 55 arsons, 14 bomb threats, 28 gun-related incidents, and 47 other offenses against 383 churches across 43 states in 2024.
  • Gun-related incidents more than doubled from 12 in 2023 to 28 last year, even as the overall total dipped from the 2023 high.
  • California led all states with 40 documented incidents, followed by Pennsylvania (29), Florida and New York (25 each), Texas (23), and Tennessee and Ohio (19 apiece).
  • FRC compiled its count from open-source documents, media coverage, and official records, a method it says may undercount events and leaves many motives undetermined.
  • Framing the findings as evidence of mounting threats to religious freedom, FRC leaders call for stronger government prosecution and preventive measures.
