Overview

  • Hrubesch joined HSV in 2020 after a 19-year stint with the German Football Association and has led the club’s youth development since then.
  • At age 74 he opted not to extend his expiring contract, saying it was time for new leadership to take charge.
  • Sport Director Stefan Kuntz expressed gratitude for Hrubesch’s service and conceded that once Hrubesch made his final decision there was no turning back.
  • As a player he captained HSV’s 1983 European Cup–winning side and later coached Germany’s women’s national team to Olympic bronze in Paris in 2024.
  • Christoph Rohmer, Loic Favé, Julia Brinkschröder and Saskia Breuer will assume his duties across the youth academy and women’s football programmes.
