Overview
- On December 13, Domyoji Tenmangu in Osaka replaced its main large ema with a horse motif for the coming Year of the Horse.
- The plaque is about 2.0 meters tall and 2.4 meters wide, featuring a white horse with red-and-white plum blossoms drawn by artist Hasegawa Sadanobu at the request of head priest Minamubojō Mitsuoki.
- The priest asked for a vigorous horse so New Year wishes would go well, and visitors photographed the piece and praised its energy.
- Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki opened a large ground picture titled “A Horse Galloping Into the Future,” roughly 23 by 34 meters, best viewed from the park’s Ferris wheel.
- Made with about 1,100 kochia plants and 22,000 pine cones, the park’s 17th annual ground artwork is on public view through January 12, 2026.
