Hormel Recalls Nearly 5 Million Pounds of Foodservice Chicken Over Metal Contamination

Regulators say fragments came from a damaged conveyor belt at establishment P-223.

Overview

  • Hormel issued a voluntary Class I recall on Oct. 25 covering 215,258 cases (4,874,815 pounds) of HORMEL Fire Braised ready-to-eat frozen chicken.
  • The products were shipped to HRI Commercial Food Service nationwide from Feb. 10 to Sept. 19, 2025, were not sold at retail, and businesses are urged by FSIS to discard any remaining stock.
  • The issue surfaced after multiple foodservice complaints of metal found in chicken breast and thigh products, prompting an investigation with FSIS.
  • Affected cases bear establishment number P-223 and include item codes 65009, 77531, 46750, 86206 and 134394, with full pack dates listed by FSIS and Hormel.
  • FSIS reports no confirmed injuries or illnesses; fragments were described as roughly 2mm by 17mm, and recall-effectiveness checks are underway.
