Overview

  • Hongkong Post has stopped accepting sea mail shipments to the U.S. immediately and will suspend air mail containing goods starting April 27.
  • The postal service refuses to collect U.S. tariffs, calling them 'unreasonable and bullying,' and will continue processing document-only mail.
  • The suspension is a direct response to the U.S. ending the de minimis exemption, which had allowed duty-free entry for parcels under $800.
  • Starting May 2, U.S. tariffs on Hong Kong goods will rise to 120%, with postal fees increasing to $100 per item, escalating to $200 after June 1.
  • Senders of unshipped surface mail items will be contacted for returns and refunds beginning April 22.
