  • Federal prosecutors filed a complaint charging 34-year-old Jose Melgar-Rivas with assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal officer resulting in bodily injury.
  • Authorities allege that on July 15 he refused to exit his vehicle and dragged an ICE officer nearly a block after shifting into drive during a traffic stop.
  • Melgar-Rivas was arrested hours later and appeared in U.S. District Court, where he was ordered held in federal custody pending further proceedings.
  • If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
