Honda Recalls 406,000 U.S. Civics for Accessory Wheel Defect That Can Cause Detachment

Owner letters are slated for early December following a 2024 finding that an Italian supplier shipped unfinished rims.

Overview

  • The Oct. 31 filing with NHTSA (Recall No. 25E071) covers 2016–2021 Civics equipped with a specific 18-inch accessory alloy wheel.
  • Dealers will inspect all four wheels and, if needed, replace defective rims along with front and rear hubs at no cost.
  • The hazard comes from missing steel lug seat inserts that can let lug nuts loosen and allow a wheel to separate during driving.
  • Only about 3,276 of the accessory wheels were sold in the U.S., and documents estimate roughly 0.1% of recalled vehicles will need replacements.
  • Honda traces the issue to 2018–2019 wheel production at a closed Italian facility and reports no confirmed crashes or injuries to date.
