Honda Launches Motocompacto: A Compact, Foldable Electric Scooter for Urban Mobility

The $995 Motocompacto, inspired by Honda's 1981 Motocompo, boasts a range of 12 miles, a top speed of 15 mph, and a foldable design that shrinks to the size of a suitcase.

  • The Honda Motocompacto is a compact, electric and foldable scooter designed to alleviate urban travel challenges. It's a reimagining of the 1981 gas-powered Motocompo, originally designed to fit in the trunk of a Honda City car.
  • Despite its small size, the Motocompacto has a speed of 15 mph, powered by a 250-watt motor, and a range of 12 miles. It weighs 41 pounds and can be folded to the size of a suitcase, making it portable for public transportation use.
  • The Motocompacto can be personalized to the user's liking, much like how people customize reusable water bottles. Honda made the shell plain to give space for customization.
  • Though weighing 41 pounds might make it a bit difficult to carry around for long distances, it can be rolled alongside when the handlebars are unfolded. When unfolded, the inner space can be utilized to store small items like a phone or laptop.
  • The Motocompacto is user-repairable with spare parts available for sale from Honda. In case of a non-user specific issue, it can be handled by a Honda service centre. The scooter is also equipped with an IPX4 water resistance.
  • Though other more powerful scooters at similar price ranges exist, none of them offers the charm and the practicality of the Motocompacto. Honda promotes it as a last-mile solution for commuting and a fun way to travel for ages 14 and up.
