Homicides Confirmed in Deaths of Missing Reading Mother and Toddler as DA Sets Sept. 29 Briefing

Investigators seek tips on possible links after a suspect was jailed in the separate killing of the mother's housemate.

Overview

  • Authorities identified the victims as Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, 31, and her 1-year-old son, Jeyden Junior Peguero, whose bodies were found Sept. 19 and 20 near East Huller Lane in Ontelaunee Township.
  • Autopsies at Reading Hospital ruled both deaths homicides, and investigators said the child was found about 150 yards from where his mother was located.
  • On Sept. 13, Reading police found Junior Cabrera-Colon, 31, dead from a gunshot wound to the head near Baer Park; he had been living with Peguero-Mancebo and her son.
  • Jose Luis Rodriguez, 61, allegedly confessed on Sept. 18 to killing Cabrera-Colon and is charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, and related offenses while being held at the Berks County Prison.
  • Officials have not said whether Rodriguez is suspected in the mother and child's deaths, and District Attorney John T. Adams scheduled a Sept. 29 press conference as authorities ask the public for information at 610-478-7171 or 610-655-6116.
