Homicide Investigation After Inmate's Death in Solano Prison Yard

Officials have opened a homicide investigation led by CDCR with oversight by the Solano County district attorney.

Overview

  • Brenten G. Kinzenbaw, 27, died after a 7:40 a.m. assault on the Facility B yard at California State Prison, Solano, and was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m.
  • Staff used chemical agents to stop the attack, an improvised weapon was recovered at the scene, and no additional injuries were reported.
  • The suspects were identified as Christian M. Dumas, 24, and Stephen J. Archer II, 38, who were moved to restricted housing pending the investigation.
  • CDCR’s Investigative Services Unit and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office are conducting the inquiry, the state inspector general was notified, and the coroner will determine the official cause of death.
  • Kinzenbaw was serving five years four months from San Diego County, Dumas is serving eight years eight months plus a concurrent four-year term from Kern County, and Archer is serving life with the possibility of parole from Sonoma County.
