Home Health Aide Indicted in Alleged Stabbing of 84-Year-Old Long Island Patient

The case proceeds on an indictment that alleges a 16-minute attack caught on home surveillance.

Overview

  • Amanda Fraser, 23, of South Richmond Hill, Queens, was arraigned on charges including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and offenses involving a vulnerable elderly person.
  • Prosecutors say she stabbed the sleeping patient with an approximately eight-inch knife and held it in place for about 16 minutes while telling the woman to "just let go."
  • The victim sustained a punctured lung, was later treated for an infection linked to the wound, and has been released from Nassau University Medical Center.
  • Fraser has been remanded since the Oct. 29 incident and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted, with her next court appearance set for Dec. 9.
  • The victim’s family says home surveillance video captured the attack; the employer, Aides at Home, reports cooperating with investigators, and records show Fraser completed state home health aide training in 2020.
