Hollow Water Stabbing Suspect Who Killed Sister Was Out on Bail, Records Show

Hospitals report several victims recovering following the attack.

Overview

  • RCMP identified the suspect as 26-year-old Tyrone Simard, who died after crashing a stolen vehicle into a responding cruiser, and confirmed the woman killed was his 18-year-old sister.
  • Police said multiple victims with stab wounds were found in two homes in the Hollow Water First Nation, prompting a temporary code orange at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre.
  • Shared Health said at least eight people were transported to hospital; by Friday four patients remained at HSC, two had undergone operations and were stable, and three had been discharged.
  • Court records verified by The Globe and Mail show Simard had prior convictions and was released on bail June 12 with conditions, with new hearings scheduled on assault-with-a-weapon and sexual-assault-related charges.
  • RCMP said the suspect knew all of the victims, the injured officer is expected to recover, there is no ongoing risk to public safety, and major-crimes investigators remain in the community.
