Holiday TV Ratings in Germany: Daytime Classics Top Christmas Eve Primetime

Preliminary AGF figures highlight the pull of nostalgia with younger viewers over ZDF’s primetime offerings.

Overview

  • Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel reached about 2.01 million viewers on ARD at midday with a 21.8% share among 14–49s, and ZDF’s Michel peaked at roughly 1.55 million with 17.4% in the same demo.
  • ZDF’s Bares für Rares Christmas special averaged about 1.53 million viewers and just 4.5% among 14–49s, trailing ARD’s repeat of Alle Jahre wieder at 1.61 million.
  • Andy Borg’s holiday show simulcast across SWR, MDR and BR drew around 1.36 million viewers with a nationwide market share above 9%.
  • Sat.1’s primetime airing of Kevin – Allein zu Haus held more than two million viewers on Christmas Eve.
  • Holiday scheduling continues through 26 December with ZDF’s 20:15 film Weihnachten im Olymp, RTL’s Sissi marathon and a 22:00 free‑TV slot for Red One on 26 December, reinforcing free‑to‑air as a no‑cost alternative to streaming.
