Overview
- Chicago police reported at least six people shot on Christmas night across multiple neighborhoods, including one fatality.
- A man in his 30s was killed around 10:11 p.m. on South Cottage Grove Avenue and was pronounced at University of Chicago Hospital.

- In Houston, officers responding to a 1:30 a.m. call at the CityScape Apartments encountered a man in a tan SUV after a resident reported he pointed a gun, and three officers opened fire when commands did not resolve the encounter, killing him at the scene.
- HPD said multiple weapons were found in the vehicle, the question of whether the man fired remains under investigation, and the three officers have been placed on administrative duty as Internal Affairs, a special investigations unit and the Harris County District Attorney review the case.
