Hockey India Reappoints Sjoerd Marijne as Women’s Head Coach

Hockey India brings back his support team to ready the squad for March's World Cup qualifiers in Hyderabad.

Overview

  • The federation confirmed the Dutch coach’s return on Friday, marking his third stint after leading India to fourth at the Tokyo Olympics and into the world top ten from 2017 to 2021.
  • Matias Vila joins as analytical coach, with Dr Wayne Lombard resuming as Scientific Advisor and Head of Athletic Performance supported by Rodet Yila and Ciara Yila.
  • Marijne is scheduled to arrive in India on January 14, with the national camp to open on January 19 at SAI Bengaluru.
  • His first assignment is the FIH Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Hyderabad from March 8–14, a route to the 2026 World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
  • Hockey India said MYAS and SAI expedited the appointment during a difficult period for the team that included missing Paris 2024 and Pro League relegation; he replaces Harendra Singh, who resigned in December.
