Overview

  • A three-day national orientation in Calgary brought together NHL, women’s and para players for briefings, with no on-ice work for NHL invitees as women and para athletes remain to skate.
  • Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Sam Reinhart, Nathan MacKinnon, Brayden Point and Cale Makar were pre-selected for the men’s team, with the full 25-man roster targeted for early January.
  • The NHL returns to the Olympics after missing 2018 and 2022, and at the camp only Crosby and Drew Doughty had prior Olympic experience.
  • Canada’s women will stay with their PWHL clubs and convene for three two-week national-team blocks in Calgary, Toronto and Montreal, totaling about 50 days together; 27 of the 30 invitees play in the PWHL.
  • The women’s team will face the United States in a Rivalry Series in November and December, opening Nov. 6 in Cleveland and Nov. 8 in Buffalo, before Canada’s Olympic openers versus Finland on Feb. 5 and Czechia on Feb. 12.
