Overview
- On August 10, Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation officially renaming the 110th Street–Central Park North station to 110th Street–Malcolm X Plaza during the 51st annual Harlem Week celebration.
- The station serves the 2 and 3 lines and will permanently honor Malcolm X, who lived in Harlem for more than a decade before his 1965 assassination.
- Hochul also signed a companion bill designating the Harlem Renaissance Cultural District as a state-protected region of cultural significance.
- NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrew Stewart-Cosins, NYC Transit President Demetrius Chrichlow and local leaders attended the ceremony to highlight Malcolm X’s impact and the district’s heritage.
- The dual actions coincide with the Harlem Renaissance centennial and aim to institutionalize the neighborhood’s pivotal contributions to civil rights and the arts.
