Hoboken Issues Local Boil-Water Advisory After Contractor Damages 10-Inch Main at 7th and Madison

Officials issued a localized boil-water advisory in West Hoboken pending water-quality testing.

Overview

  • Veolia and the Hoboken Water Utility said a contractor struck the line at 7th and Madison around 4:30 p.m. Monday, causing significant flooding, low pressure and outages.
  • The advisory applies to residents on 6th through 10th Streets west of Adams, including Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Jackson, Harrison and Marshall.
  • Seventh Street between Jackson and Madison is closed as OEM and Veolia isolate the main and carry out repairs.
  • Authorities said the boil-water notice will remain until laboratory results confirm the water supply is satisfactory.
  • The break comes a week after a separate main failure at Newark and Garden led to a citywide advisory, and a local councilman called for penalties against contractors who damage water lines.
