Hoax Bomb Threats Put Major Airports on Alert as Air India Express Flight Lands Safely

BCAS ordered tighter screening nationwide following the Red Fort blast, with BTAC declaring today's alerts non-specific.

Overview

  • IndiGo received a threat message around 3:30–3:45 pm referencing Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram, which BTAC evaluated as non-specific after precautionary checks.
  • A separate call about a device at Delhi’s Terminal 3 was investigated by police and fire services and ruled a hoax.
  • An Air India Express MumbaiVaranasi flight reported a mid-air bomb threat, landed safely in Varanasi, passengers disembarked, the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay and BTAC later labeled the threat a hoax.
  • Airports activated standard protocols, including bomb-disposal squads, sniffer dogs and aircraft release only after mandated inspections.
  • BCAS enforced heightened measures such as compulsory Secondary Ladder Point Checking and fuller aircraft and catering inspections, while Delhi airport advised travelers that screening could take longer.
