HMV Confirms Three New Stores in Peterborough, Cork and The Hague This Year

The retailer is steering expansion toward Ireland as well as mainland Europe to protect profitability after scaling back UK plans.

Overview

  • New outlets are planned for Queensgate in Peterborough, Merchants Quay in Cork, and The Hague, with the UK and Irish sites expected to open before the end of 2025.
  • The Hague store will be HMV’s first location in the Netherlands, extending the brand’s presence on the continent.
  • Cork will be the company’s third site in the Republic of Ireland, joining existing stores in Dublin and Limerick.
  • The Peterborough opening marks a return to the city after a five-year absence, following prolonged efforts to secure a deal.
  • HMV, rescued by Sunrise Records owner Doug Putman after its 2018 collapse, now operates about 120 UK stores and has pivoted to vinyl, pop-culture merchandise and live in-store events, with new growth prioritised outside a broader UK rollout.
