Overview

  • The carrier made its first formal port call at Marina Bay Cruise Centre on June 23 as part of an eight-month deployment across the Indo-Pacific.
  • Operation Highmast brings together around 4,000 UK service members and ships from Canada, Norway and Spain under the HMS Prince of Wales flagship.
  • While docked, the carrier is hosting public tours, a defence and security industry day, a science and technology symposium and a friendly e-sports tournament.
  • Berthing at a civilian cruise centre instead of a naval base underscores Britain’s emphasis on soft power projection and visibility in the region.
  • Following Singapore, the strike group will visit Indonesia, Japan and South Korea and participate in exercises including Talisman Sabre and the Five Power Defence Arrangements’ Bersama Lima.
