HMS Agamemnon Completes First Submerged Trim Dive in Barrow

The in-dock test clears the newly commissioned submarine for sea trials ahead of joining the fleet at HMNB Clyde.

  • The trials verified stability, buoyancy, watertight integrity, internal weight balance, and calibration of sensors and ballast systems.
  • Testing was carried out by BAE Systems and the ship’s crew with oversight from the Submarine Delivery Agency and Ministry of Defence naval architects.
  • The boat was commissioned by King Charles III on September 22, 2025, and is the sixth of seven 97-metre, 7,400-tonne Astute-class submarines.
  • BAE Systems reports its Barrow submarines workforce has grown to about 15,000, as it progresses Astute production, builds four Dreadnought-class SSBNs, and advances AUKUS design work.
