Hispanidad 2025 Opens in Madrid With Free Concerts and Expanded Security

Authorities have activated a citywide safety and mobility plan for Oct. 5 to handle expected crowds at Gloria Estefan’s Colón concert and the Gran Vía parade.

  • The ten‑day festival runs Oct. 3–12 with Argentina as guest country and a program of over 150 activities across central Madrid venues.
  • Madrid City Council will deploy about 800 municipal police officers across events throughout the festival period.
  • For the Gloria Estefan show in Plaza de Colón, the city is assigning 190 municipal agents and Samur-Protección Civil will field 45 sanitarians, a mobile field hospital, nine ambulances and specialized support vehicles.
  • On Sunday, Oct. 5, Gran Vía will be fully closed to traffic from 16:00 to 22:00, with an added closure on Alcalá (CibelesGran Vía, toward Plaza de España) until 23:00, EMT bus routes adjusted and potential access closures at the Gran Vía, Callao and Plaza de España metro stations depending on attendance.
  • The Hispanidad parade on Oct. 5 will feature delegations from 23 Spanish‑speaking countries, with the Philippines participating for the first time, and city estimates suggest around 66,000 attendees.
