Overview
- Hisense started rolling out the Dolby Vision 2 firmware on Thursday, August 6, 2026, for its 2026 UX, UR9, UR8 and U7 models running Google TV or VIDAA OS and expects the update to continue over several weeks across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
- Dolby Vision 2 introduces two tiers: a base level that improves tone mapping and adds an Intensity Slider and Content Intelligence, and a Max tier that enables Authentic Motion, Light Sense 2 and pro calibration settings on higher-end TVs.
- Dolby says the new image engine will make existing Dolby Vision titles look better immediately on upgraded sets by using expanded metadata and more powerful scene-by-scene processing.
- Support requires compatible system-on-chip hardware today, notably the MediaTek Pentonic 800, which limits which TVs can be upgraded now and means other brands will add DV2 gradually; TCL and Philips are expected to add support later in 2026.
- Peacock, iQIYI and CANAL+ have committed to adopt Dolby Vision 2 encoding in future content, but native DV2-authored material is initially limited, so full feature use depends on wider content mastering and additional chip support.
