Overview

• Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said 6,71,754 senior citizens receive monthly pensions tiered at Rs 1,000 for men aged 60–69, Rs 1,500 for women 60–69, and Rs 1,700 for those 70 and above, with eligibility irrespective of income.
• The government announced the Rogi Mitra Yojana will launch soon to provide regular health check-ups for older residents, marking a shift toward preventive care.
• A Sukh Aashray Parisar is under construction at Jwalamukhi with a Rs 100 crore outlay to offer comprehensive residential facilities for senior citizens.
• HelpAge India estimated about eight lakh seniors in Himachal and urged stronger geriatric wards, mobile health units, and a caregiver pool, while advocating a Rs 2,000 universal rural pension.
• At the state event in Shimla, the government also highlighted Rs 1,500 monthly support for 2.37 lakh women and Rs 3 lakh housing aid for single and widowed women, alongside orphan-care support up to age 27.
