Himachal Pradesh to Provide Pucca Homes to Eligible Poor, Boost Panchayati Raj Capacity

A survey-led drive targets the poorest households still in kutcha dwellings with support beyond construction.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the push at a high-level review of the Panchayati Raj Department in Shimla.
  • An initial survey identified 27,715 extremely poor families lacking pucca houses under a Rs 50,000 annual income limit with existing pucca-home owners excluded.
  • A second survey phase added 35,355 families to the extremely poor category, bringing the total identified to 63,070 households.
  • Upcoming phases will cover orphaned children, persons with disabilities, and widows, with criteria relaxed to ensure no eligible family is left out.
  • The government will fill vacant Panchayati Raj posts, including Junior Engineers in panchayats, and has ordered regular progress reviews with zero tolerance for delays.
