Himachal Pradesh Sets Time-Bound Push for Hydro, Pumped Storage and Green Energy

The chief minister directed HPPCL to work in mission mode to position the state as a Green Energy leader next year.

Overview

  • At a review in Shimla on November 6, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu ordered acceleration across hydropower, pump-storage, solar and green-hydrogen projects.
  • The 450 MW Shong Tong project was given a December 2026 completion deadline with transmission to be built in parallel, with more than 60% of work reported complete.
  • HPPCL was told to stick to timelines for the 130 MW Kashang-II & III, 48 MW Chanju-III, 40 MW Renuka Dam and 191 MW Thana Plaun hydro projects.
  • Work is to begin on the proposed 1,630 MW Renukaji and 270 MW Thana Plaun pump-storage projects to bolster peak-hour supply and ease grid stress.
  • Solar development will be fast-tracked with new land parcels identified, and the 1 MW Nalagarh green hydrogen plant was set a June 2026 completion target.
