Overview

  • Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has instructed the energy department to issue cancellation notices to developers of long-delayed hydropower projects.
  • The state will take back the 382 MW Sunni, 210 MW Luhri Stage-I and 66 MW Dhaulasidh schemes from SJVNL following years of stalled progress.
  • Officials confirmed that approval for the Kishau and Renuka dam projects will only proceed once neighbouring states settle their arrears with the Bhakra Beas Management Board.
  • The BBMB has identified 4,403 MW of pump storage potential at Bhakra Dam and 8,700 MW at Kol Dam to bolster grid flexibility.
  • Sukhu also directed HPSEBL to commission the Kaza solar power plant by August 2025 and fast-track a battery-backed solar project at Dhanwas in Pangi valley for year-round power security.
