Himachal Pradesh Orders Monthly Grading of PWD Rest and Circuit Houses

The state will use a 50-point checklist to grade facilities, posting monthly reports online to strengthen upkeep and transparency.

Overview

  • Monthly inspections will be carried out by junior engineers and SDOs, with executive engineers reviewing findings and uploading reports to the PWD portal.
  • The standardized format covers structural elements, fire extinguishers, electrical systems, elevators, water and sewerage, garden upkeep, lighting, and unauthorised parking.
  • Each facility will be rated from very good to poor on appliance condition, water availability, purifier status, cleanliness in kitchens and washrooms, and other guest-facing essentials.
  • The initiative currently covers 275 PWD rest houses with 1,335 rooms and 21 circuit houses with 222 rooms across the state.
  • Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu described the effort as first-of-its-kind, with phased expansion to other departments, wider public access via online booking and new signage, and quarterly awards for top-graded houses.
