Overview
- State officials announced the policy on September 20 with a target to train and deploy 1,000 Pashu Mitras across rural areas.
- Pashu Mitras will connect farmers with veterinarians and provide doorstep support such as first aid, vaccinations, and basic animal health guidance.
- Each worker will earn ₹5,000 per month for part-time service and will remain posted at a single institution, with gazetted holidays, one day of leave per month, and maternity provisions of 180 days plus 45 days for miscarriage or abortion.
- Applicants must reside in the jurisdiction of the assigned veterinary institution and pass a physical test of running 100 meters in one minute while carrying up to 25 kg.
- Recruitment and oversight will be handled by a Pashu Mitra Engagement Committee chaired by the Sub-Divisional Officer, and duties include handling large animals, lifting liquid-nitrogen containers for artificial insemination, distributing cattle feed under the Pregnancy Ration Scheme, and leading awareness on man–animal conflict and stray cattle.
