Himachal Pradesh Businessman Receives ₹200 Crore Electricity Bill Due to Technical Glitch

The error, caused by a billing system malfunction, was corrected to a payable amount of ₹4,047 after the issue was reported.

Lalit Dhiman, a businessman from Beherwin Jattan village in Himachal Pradesh, was shocked to receive an electricity bill of ₹2,10,42,08,405 for December 2024.
The previous month's bill for Dhiman was only ₹2,500, making the sudden increase startling and inexplicable.
Electricity board officials confirmed that the massive bill was the result of a technical glitch in the billing system.
The error was rectified, and Dhiman's corrected bill was reduced to ₹4,047, which he was required to pay instead.
Similar incidents have occurred in the past, including a case in Gujarat where a tailor received an erroneous bill of ₹86 lakh, later corrected to ₹1,540.
