Himachal Pradesh Announces Medical College Overhaul With New Residency Policy, 1,000 Rogi Mitras

The package targets stronger in‑state training to improve staffing, with pilots to ease patient facilitation.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said a comprehensive Senior Residency Policy will be framed to rationalise posts across state medical colleges.
  • The share of General Duty Officers in senior residency will rise to 66 percent, replacing the current 50:50 split with direct recruits.
  • New MD/MS disciplines will be introduced at the colleges in Chamba, Nahan, Hamirpur, and Nerchowk, with DM/MCh super-specialists to be appointed to bolster advanced care.
  • All medical colleges will get modern ICUs, and Data Entry Operators will be deployed in OPDs to strengthen patient record management.
  • The state will hire 1,000 Rogi Mitras with an SOP-ready pilot launching from Hamirpur, beginning at PHCs and adding elderly-help counters at IGMC Shimla, Tanda and Chamiyana Hospital.
