Himachal CM accelerates Durgesh Aranya Zoo as part of ₹233 Cr Dehra development drive

The state leader is prioritizing sustainable tourism through eco-certified zoo facilities equipped with rainwater-harvesting check dams.

Overview

  • The Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park’s boundary wall is 90% complete and eight check dams have been built, with additional dams ordered to boost rainwater harvesting.
  • On June 4, Sukhu laid foundation stones for 12 projects totalling Rs 233.55 crore, including a circuit house, a critical care unit and a combined office building in Dehra.
  • Earlier on June 3, he inaugurated six projects worth Rs 100 crore, among them a community health centre at Haripur, a hospital administrative block and regional road and water supply upgrades.
  • The zoo has secured Indian Green Building Council certification and Central Zoo Authority approval for 34 enclosures and will host 78 species, from Asiatic lions to native birds.
  • The state government is integrating sustainable forest management and eco-tourism initiatives to balance infrastructure growth with environmental conservation.
