Himachal Clears Rs 1,734-Crore, 13.79-Km Ropeway for Shimla

Officials cast the city link as a congestion relief move connecting major hubs through three corridors.

Overview

  • The approved system spans three lines split into 14 sections with 13 stations tying the Secretariat, hospitals, schools, the railway station and the main bus stand.
  • Construction is slated to take four years, according to Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri.
  • Under the Smart City plan, 19 projects worth Rs 50 crore and three more worth Rs 25 crore are scheduled in Shimla by December 2026.
  • Other ropeways advancing include Baba Balaknath (Rs 65 crore), Bijli Mahadev (Rs 278.62 crore), Mata Chintpurni (Rs 76.50 crore) and the 1.20-km Dhalpur–Peej line (Rs 80 crore), all targeted for completion by June 2027.
  • The state cites early results from the Baglamukhi rural ropeway and is pitching a 38-km Shimla–Parwanoo PPP link estimated at Rs 5,602.56 crore, even as opposition leaders meet Dev Samaj representatives over cultural objections to the Bijli Mahadev project.
