Himachal Cabinet Clears EV Taxi Subsidy, Revamps Solar Scheme, Expands Disaster Relief

The package targets faster clean-energy uptake alongside clearer rural rules.

Overview

  • The Transport Department was authorized to permit conversion of 1,000 diesel and petrol taxis to electric vehicles with a 40% subsidy under the Rajiv Gandhi Swarozgar Yojna.
  • The ground-mounted solar program was renamed Rajiv Gandhi Swarojgar Saur Urja Yojna with interest subsidies set at 5% in tribal areas and 4% in non-tribal areas for 100 kW to 2 MW projects.
  • The special relief package for recent monsoon disasters was extended statewide, and the first installment for fully damaged homes was raised to ₹4 lakh from ₹1.5 lakh.
  • A Cabinet sub-committee led by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi was formed to finalize Rural Area Development model bylaws for gram panchayats, with ministers Anirudh Singh, Vikramaditya Singh, and Rajesh Dharamani as members.
  • Other approvals included extending municipal mayors’ and deputy mayors’ terms to five years, granting 15 days of paternity leave to contractual employees, creating 300 junior office assistant (IT) trainee posts, and adding 19 sports to the merit recruitment list.
