Overview
- Deputies received a report around 8:26–8:30 p.m. Saturday of four hikers overdue near State Route 74 in the Anza area of Riverside County.
- The Riverside County Sheriff's Aviation Unit and Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit located the group and hoisted them to the Lake Hemet Mountain Station for medical evaluation.
- A companion who went out alone to look for the group was later found near the base of an approximately 150-foot rock face and was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Rescue teams recovered the body from the remote terrain as the Riverside County Coroner's Bureau assumed the death investigation.
- Authorities asked anyone with information to contact Deputy Francisco Lopez at the Hemet Sheriff Station at 951-791-3400.
