HII Launches Romulus USV Family, Begins Build of 190-Foot Flagship

The commercially built design uses a Gulf Coast partner network to speed repeatable production.

Overview

  • ROMULUS 190 is under construction with a minimum 2,500-nautical-mile range, speeds over 25 knots, and a payload deck sized for four 40-foot ISO containers.
  • HII’s Odyssey autonomy software will control the vessels and has logged more than 6,000 operational hours across over 35 USV platforms with U.S. and allied users.
  • Development partners include Beier Integrated Systems, Breaux Brothers, and Incat Crowther, with Ingalls Shipbuilding supporting program management.
  • HII targets first-vessel completion in about 12 months and plans to scale to as many as six concurrent builds with deliveries of roughly four to five per year.
  • The modular, multi-mission design maps to characteristics sought in the Navy’s Modular Attack Surface Craft program, though HII has not said it is bidding.
