High Winds Cut Power to About 1,400 on Mull as Repairs Underway

SSEN says an overhead-line fault in high winds cut power on the island, with restoration targeted for early afternoon.

Overview

  • Strong gusts triggered faults on overhead electricity lines, leaving most of the affected properties on the Isle of Mull without supply.
  • SSEN dispatched engineers to make repairs and reported active work to reconnect customers.
  • The Met Office issued a yellow wind warning for the west coast, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland, forecasting 60–70 mph gusts with some possibly topping 75 mph.
  • Additional but smaller outages were reported around Lochinver, Lairg, Invershiel and Lochalsh.
  • Residents were advised that cuts are patchy in affected areas, so some households may still have power.
