High Tide Halts Search as Fishermen Recover Drowning Victim at Juhu’s Silver Beach

  • Two friends, 20-year-old Vighnesh Murugesh Devendram and 22-year-old Rajkumar Govind Subba, were swept 200 metres into the Arabian Sea at Silver Beach by strong monsoon currents on August 1.
  • On-duty lifeguards pulled Subba to safety but Devendram drifted out of sight, prompting a coordinated response by the Mumbai Fire Brigade, BMC officials, Juhu Police, 108 emergency services and fishermen.
  • Search operations were suspended at 1:36 pm due to rising tides and rough seas, delaying the recovery of the missing youth.
  • Devendram’s body was found by local fishermen and Juhu Police at around 10:30 pm on August 2 and he was pronounced dead at Cooper Hospital.
  • Authorities have launched an investigation into possible alcohol involvement and issued renewed safety warnings as monsoon conditions persist.
