High Streamflow Advisories Hold Across B.C. Coast as Multi-Day Rains Swell Rivers

Forecast confidence is reduced due to limited data access during ongoing job action.

Overview

  • Advisories remain in effect for the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and other coastal areas, with officials tracking rapid river rises.
  • The River Forecast Centre is maintaining advisories for the Kingcome and Wakeman rivers and has ended some for the Central Coast, including around Bella Coola and Rivers Inlet.
  • Forecasts call for 40 to 70 millimetres across coastal lowlands over four days, with up to about 100 millimetres on west-facing Vancouver Island slopes.
  • Authorities expect localized flooding, possible road washouts and hazardous fast-flowing water, while saying widespread major flooding is unlikely.
  • Another system is expected Sunday into Monday for the South Coast, and Environment Canada has issued a separate Peace Region wind warning with gusts near 90 km/h easing Saturday.
