Overview

• Ohio State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a Volkswagen Atlas for speeding on northbound I-71 near State Route 82 at about 2:37 a.m.
• The driver refused to pull over, leading to a pursuit that continued north on I-71 before exiting at West 130th Street.
• The SUV briefly entered I-90 and exited at West Boulevard, where it struck a concrete curb and became disabled.
• Five passengers who stayed with the vehicle were detained at the scene and later released, while the driver fled on foot and was not found.
• ODOT recently added median barrier walls in the area to protect nearby homes, and Cleveland police and fire units assisted at the scene.
