Overview

  • On August 8, 2025, Manchester Drinks Company issued a nationwide recall of its Slush Puppie and Toxic Waste Sour Slushy 250 ml pouches sold at Action after laboratory tests showed glycerin concentrations above the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment’s safe limit.
  • The recall covers multiple flavor variants—Blue Raspberry, Strawberry, Mango, Lemon & Lime, and Apple—each packaged in squeezable 250 ml bags.
  • Although the overall food safety risk is considered low, elevated glycerin levels can trigger nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches in sensitive individuals such as children and adults weighing up to 65 kilograms.
  • The BfR warned in February 2025 that glycerin in Slush-Ice drinks can cause unwanted health effects, exposing a regulatory gap since neither EU nor national bodies have set binding maximum levels.
  • Consumers who purchased the recalled Slush products should return them to any Action store for a full refund, and experts are calling for standardized additive limits to better protect vulnerable age groups.
