Overview
- Environment and Climate Change Canada warned of heavy rain that raised flows in the Bow and Elbow rivers and other southern Alberta basins, producing runoff well above normal for this time of year.
- The Calgary Fire Department has issued a boating advisory that applies when flows exceed about 280 m3/s and recent readings were reported above roughly 360–400 m3/s, making rivers fast, cold and murky.
- City managers and operators proactively lowered Glenmore and Ghost reservoirs to expand storage capacity and reduce downstream peak flows, and the city says large-scale flood measures are not expected to be needed.
- Parks Canada and local authorities closed trails, day-use sites and campgrounds in Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise because of high water, and emergency crews responded to a Harvie Passage incident that did not require a rescue.
- Officials forecast river levels to crest by Tuesday and say widespread overland flooding is unlikely thanks to cooler temperatures slowing mountain snowmelt and more than $1.3 billion in flood-resilience projects completed since 2013.
